Triathlons

In September and October of 2009 a group of dedicated friends and family will be running in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon and the Los Angeles Triathlon in support of Sebastien and the entire Daniel family.

These Triathlons are "Olympic" distance and consist of the following:

Each of the participating athletes has begun an extensive training regimen and are hoping for your support by making a donation in their name.  All proceeds go 100% to the Daniel family to help them during Sebastien's recovery.  Simply click on the "sponsor me" button below each athlete's name and you will be taken to a special page where you can make a secure donation.  Each of us has a goal to raise at least $750 and we all thank you for your very generous support!

Also, If you are in the area we would love to have you come out and cheer on the athletes.  If  you have never been to a triathlon it is quite an event and a lot of fun!  Please see the websites below for more information on each triathlon:

"I am competing in the Malibu Triathlon for Sebastien so that someday he will have the opportunity to compete in one too.  Everyone should finish one once, to feel the exhilaration and great accomplishment of crossing the finish line.  The training is intense and at times challenging but nothing compared to what Sebastien and the Daniel Family is facing during the treatment of his leukemia.   Help the Daniel Family in Sebastien’s recovery and beating leukemia!"

"In this photo I was training for a dear friend of mine and dedicated the race to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.   Shannon was pregnant with Sebastien and Julien was a happy little camper!  Now the fight is in our court!  We will fight it and to be honest, doing triathlons is the best thing to ever happen to me.  I can let some of my anger and stress out.  When I train I feel hope and my mind goes in the right direction!  I want to thank you for your support in this life-changing event.  With all our hearts, the Daniel family"

“I consider my self an athletic person but this will be my first triathlon and I am a little bit scared, especially about the open swim portion of the competition.  But, I merely need to look to Sebastien and the whole Daniel Family for my inspiration on bravery and strength.  I visited them one weekend while Sebastien was still in the hospital after he had completed his second round of chemotherapy.  Through all these tough times, they have not changed the core of who they are.  They are still warm, loving and giving.  Also, just a few hours hanging out at the hospital playing with Sebastien wore me out! (Maybe that tells me I should step up my training. ☺)  Unfortunately, Sebastien and the Daniel Family still have a long fight ahead of them.  Therefore, I would greatly appreciate any support you could make to this amazing family to help ease their struggle.”

"My words don’t do justice to how I feel about Jean Mi and Shannon. They truly are a unique pair. At different times in the past they have provided me with shelter and comfort when I was fighting my own personnel storm; a margarita (or 3, ahem!) when I needed a margarita; some french cooking when I needed the company; but most of all they offered me unconditional love through the good times, the bad times and many many happy times. For me, they are best defined by the fact that their front door is permanently open to everyone - and, at different times, we have all reached out to their generosity. I am fortunate in my life to have met and become friends with many people whom I consider special and Jean Mi and Shannon certainly fit the criteria. I wish I could click my fancy heels and make it all better and wake up from another bad dream but the reality is that this fight of Sebastien's with leukemia is real. But the wagons are circling and I want nothing more than to be part of the support structure to this family as they go through trying times. Thank you kindly for supporting these dear friends of mine! Eugene 'Phelps Armstrong Gebreselassie' Farrell is going to put himself through all sorts of triathlon related pain barriers but would do it all 10 times over if it makes wee Sebastien, Julien, Jean Mi and Shannon's fight even slightly one bit easier!"

"The Daniel's are the greatest, most loving family you could ever know.  I've known them for over 10 years now and it's been a real pleasure getting to watch them raise their two beautiful boys, Julien and Sebastien. Watching them fight this battle of leukemia that Sebastien has is a true heartbreak, but I'd like to do whatever I can to support them along the way. As you can tell by the photos, Sebastien is just a bundle of joy.  He's a real fighter too though, and I know that together we can do our best to play a small part in helping him and the Daniels on the long road ahead.  Thanks for your support."

"It’s been more than a few months since we’ve found out about Sebastien’s sickness.  And since that time I’ve searched and searched for the best way to support my dear friends Jean Michel, Shannon, Julien and of course Sebastien.  Owing to some now fortuitous circumstances (I was on route for the Chicago Marathon a week later), I’ve taken up the challenge of participating in the LA Triathlon (my first) in support of Sebastien’s even bigger challenge.  The Daniel’s are such a magnificent family; their love and support for those around them make this an easy decision for me to return those qualities in kind.  I’m proud to be part of this group and I would humbled by your support."

"This will be my 9th triathlon but the first that really holds a special meaning for me. Sebastien and his brother Julien are two of the sweetest kids that I know and it's heartbreaking to see what the family is going through.  I know that Sebastien is a true fighter and I am participating so that I hope one day I will see him compete in his first triathlon!  Thank you for your sponsorship on behalf of the Daniel family!"

"I recently turned 40 and wouldn't change a thing about my life so far.  I would like Sebastien Daniel to be afforded the same.  That is why I am happy to be part of the fundraising effort on his behalf."

Thank you for your support!
